Electronic PS & R and Layout Information
Summary reports are available in an electronic or a paper format. When an electronic report is ordered, a paper copy will also be sent. When requesting an electronic version of the summary report, please include a valid e-mail address as this is the preferred method for transmitting the file (although the report may also be sent on a disk). Please check with your vendor for availability of electronic upload capabilities. The following is the format for electronic summary reports:

Electronic detail files are created on an IBM mainframe, in "EBCDIC" format, on cartridges and reels. We cannot create an ASCII format file for use on a personal computer diskette or CD. Mainframe cartridges typically come in a compressed format, but are available uncompressed. We normally produce our reels in a density of 6250 bpi. Requests other than our normal output, will require intervention on the part of our programming staff, resulting in an additional $100 programming fee. Due to other programming priorities, we may not be able to fill these requests.
The normal format we send is a data file with a single, variable length record that must be read by a mainframe computer. Under this format, each record is a different length, largely depending on the number of revenue codes billed. Special coding is needed in your programming to handle the variable length records. The file can be read by any mainframe language that can read "packed" data, such as COBOL or ALC. A mainframe programmer familiar with COBOL will be require to utilize this file. You should also request a copybook layout with the cartridge or tape, which will tell you in what positions of each record the HIC, paid date, service dates, etc. can be found.
