NPI: Reminders When Submitting NPI and Legacy Numbers
The following are billing reminders when submitting National Provider Identifier (NPI) numbers and old Legacy numbers for groups and their members on the CMS-1500 claim form.
- Report the NPI assigned to a group in the billing provider portion of the CMS-1500 form (Item 33/electronic equivalent), along with the group's Legacy number.
- Report the NPI of the member of a group who furnished the care being billed in the rendering provider section of the CMS-1500 form (Item 24J/electronic equivalent), along with the members Legacy number.
