Fund-raising bells will be ringing until Dec. 24
December 17, 2012
WPS Health Insurance, the leading not-for-profit provider of health insurance in Wisconsin and the state's top provider of affordable group and individual health insurance, is supporting The Salvation Army of Dane County in its Red Kettle Campaign through Dec. 24.
WPS has supported the fundraiser for more than 15 years, according to Chuck Grant, former WPS vice president of human resources and current member of the Salvation Army of Dane County board of directors. "The best part about this event for WPS is the employee involvement," he said. "Supporting an organization that does so much good in the community is really rewarding for everyone involved."
The Salvation Army depends on the campaign to raise a substantial portion of its annual operating budget. The money raised provides food for the hungry, relief for disaster victims, assistance for the disabled, outreach to the elderly and ill, clothing and shelter to the homeless, and opportunities for underprivileged children. For every dollar The Salvation Army spends, 82 cents is used to support those services in 5,000 communities nationwide. This year's goal for the Dane County group is $700,000.
The 2012 Red Kettle Campaign brings The Salvation Army's iconic kettles and 25,000 bell ringers to street corners and storefronts nationwide through Dec. 24. Look for WPS bell ringers at Madison's South Towne Shopko store.
