Search Tips for Using the Find a Doctor Tool

In the State Web area's Find a Doctor section, you will find links to specific networks. On a given network page, there will be supporting documentation to evaluate that network, and links to go directly to the network in the Find a Doctor search tool. Try the following tips to get the most effective search results:

  1. Within the Find a Doctor search tool, you can search by doctor's name, specialty, or location. Enter your criteria, then click the "Search" button.
  2. To find a particular hospital or facility, type the word "hospital" in the specialty area, then enter a city or county.
  3. Read the disclaimer, then click "Continue" to view your search results.
  4. If your search did not yield the results you were looking for, try another search with broader search criteria. For example: if you are looking for a general physician (no specialty), search using the criteria "family practice" or "internal medicine" and enter a city or county. Or, to find a particular hospital or facility, type the word "hospital" in the specialty area, then enter a city or county.

About searching for a national network provider:

National Networks allow access to thousands of Preferred Providers nationwide, which is handy for anyone who lives out-of-state, travels frequently, or has children away at school.

If your plan has a national network, be aware that you will be leaving the WPS website and searching for providers on the national network provider's website. Wisconsin providers in any search results on the national network websites should be ignored, since Wisconsin providers are covered under your SMP, SMP WPE, Statewide or PAR plan through WPS.
